No, the app is fundamental to use the machine.

  • Can I use the app without the machine?

Yes, you can still discover brew recipes, even when you don’t have a machine. Although we encourage you to have a machine to use the full potential of our app.

  • How much does the app cost?

The MiniBrew app is available for free in the App Store.

  • What will I receive when I order the MiniBrew system?

Each MiniBrew system comes with a base station, including a SmartKeg, tap handle, CO2 regulator, air lock, keg stand, trub container, water inlet tubes and cleaning system.

  • How do I control my MiniBrew system?

The MiniBrew system can be controlled by the MiniBrew app or the brewery portal.
The app and the system communicate through the internet, so a wifi connection is mandatory. If the MiniBrew system is connected to the internet it doesn’t matter if you're near the machine or at the office: you’ll always be able to monitor your brew.

  • Will the MiniBrew system also work without internet?

The MiniBrew system will continue to work offline, but a wifi connection is needed to progress into a next stage of the brewing process.

  • What ingredients can I use with my MiniBrew system?

MiniBrew is an all-grain brewing system with 6 individual containers for hops and flavourings. You can purchase ingredient packs from the MiniBrew app to easily create fresh beers. It will also be possible to brew your own recipes in the near future.

  • How long does it take before I can drink my beer?

The brewing stage takes around 4 hours followed by fermentation. Fermentation can take from a week up to several months depending on the recipe.

  • How much noise does the MiniBrew system make?

The sound produced by MiniBrew during the brewing process is comparable that of a dishwasher. During fermentation it is comparable to that of a computer fan.

  • Do you smell the brewing process?

We have minimised the smell, but the brewing process does produce some odour.

  • How do I clean my MiniBrew system?

Removable parts need to be put in the dishwasher. The base station cleans itself. All you need to do is insert a regular (dishwasher) cleaning tab and hit start on the app. Only use standard dishwasher tablets without rinse aid. At certain steps during the brewing process a sanitizer product needs to be used to avoid introducing bacteria in the air into your beer. Some sanitizer products can be very corrosive, so remember to dilute it based on the instructions on the label, and if it drips onto the outside of your MiniBrew, make sure you wipe it off with a soft cloth immediately.

  • Does the MiniBrew needs to be connected to the water supply line?

A 3/4 Gardena water in/outlet is needed for brewing and the automatic cleaning process.

  • What will I receive when I order an ingredient pack?

Every ingredient pack will include a certain type of grain, hops, yeast and a QR code to start up your brewing. The amounts and types of ingredients will vary according to your recipe. We ask you to add the water.

  • What types of beer can I brew with the MiniBrew ingredient packs?

The MiniBrew ingredient packs enable you to brew a wide range of beers, from the lightest pilsners to the darkest stouts. It is not yet possible to brew sours with the MiniBrew machine, but we're working on a solution for that.

  • Can I brew non-alcoholic beer or kettle sours with the MiniBrew?

The MiniBrew is capable of brewing both kettle sours and non-alcoholic beer, but we haven't enabled our customers to do it yet, due to the fact that both of these beer types require pasteurization. We are currently developing a pasteurization process that is both safe and user friendly. Once we have finished development we will happily announce the addition of this feature. In the meantime we hope you will enjoy all the other styles of beer that can be brewed on your MiniBrew!

  • How many liters of beer can I brew with one ingredient pack?

With one ingredient pack, the MiniBrew produces 5 to 5.5 liters of craft beer. The final amount depends on the beer style and will slightly vary.

  • Where can I get my ingredient packs?

Ingredient packs can be purchased from within the MiniBrew app and are delivered to your doorstep.

  • How much does an ingredient pack cost?

The price of an ingredient pack depends on the recipe and contents, starting at € 19.99 excluding shipping.

  • What will I receive when I order the SmartKeg?

Each SmartKeg comes with a tap handle, CO2 regulator, air lock, keg stand and trub container.

  • What is so smart about the SmartKeg?

The SmartKeg is equipped with integrated software, a heating/cooling unit and is wifi-connected. The SmartKeg regulates the temperature fitting your brew recipe, so it either heats up during the fermentation process or cools down the beer when it is ready to drink.

  • Does the SmartKeg work without an internet connection?

The SmartKeg needs a stable wifi connection to start the fermentation process. However, if the wifi connection is lost during fermentation, the keg will continue to follow the setup process without any problems.

  • How many liters does the Smart Keg hold?

The Smart Keg holds up to 7.5 liters, and you will end up with approximately 5 to 5.5 liters of craft beer depending on your recipe.

  • How does the carbonation with the SmartKeg work?

Carbonation in the SmartKeg works in two ways. One way is to naturally carbonate your beer by removing the air lock during secondary fermentation. The formed CO2 then carbonates the beer. For some Belgian beers, more sugar is added to boost the CO2 production.

Another way is to force carbonate the beer with CO2. The SmartKeg then reduces the temperature and you plug in the CO2 regulator to the keg. The CO2 then dissolves in the beer and carbonates it.

  • How do I seperate the yeast residue from my beer?

Just place your SmartKeg on the keg stand and attach the trub container underneath it. Yeast is periodically removed by detaching and cleaning the trub container.

  • How long will my beer stay drinkable?

That depends on the beer style. Your beer could stay fresh for up to 1 month.

  • How much water does the MiniBrew use for cooling?

The amount of water used for cooling varies depending on a number of factors: flow rate from the water source, temperature of water coming in from the water source, and density of the beer being brewed.

Under normal use we expect an average flow rate of about 2.5 liters per minute from a water source. At this flow rate we expect to use about 44 liters of water to cool 5.5 liters of beer, which is a ratio of 8:1. This is an average based on ground water temperatures below 17℃, and the system can use a lot more or a lot less water depending on the flow rate and the temperature of the cooling water provided.

We are currently developing a peripheral cooling system that re-circulates ice water. This system is capable of cooling to pitch temperatures at a ratio lower than 2:1.

  • What kind of periodic maintenance is required for my MiniBrew?

Before performing any maintenance, be sure to unplug your MiniBrew Base Station or Smart Keg from power.

To perform periodic maintenance of the Base Station: Every three months, we recommend you apply a small amount of food grade grease from the service kit onto the white connectors that can be found on the lower side of the front housing, and onto the seals of the CIP rig tubes. We also recommend using a soft wet brush to clean any particles off the gear at the top of the Base Station where the carousel is placed. Finally we recommend you unscrew the yellow caps on the top connectors and remove the seal and valve underneath. These parts can all be placed in the dishwasher for cleaning.

To perform periodic maintenance of the Smart Keg: use a duster can or vacuum to remove any dust buildup on the back of the fan. We suggest you do this between each brew or whenever it looks dirty to you.

  • I can't connect my MiniBrew base station.

Make sure you're not trying to connect to a 5Ghz network.

Hold down the button on the back of the base station until the LED turns purple.

At this point the machine should be creating a hotspot called MiniBrew Base. Connect to this hotspot with your computer or device.

    Open a browser window.

Insert 192.168.4.1 in your browser address bar (don't search with Google).

Enter your Wifi SSID (network name) and password.

Once this is done, hit submit and when the reset button presents, select it.

When done correctly, your base station LED light will turn green, or pink if it's updating.

  • My keg can't cool down to the set temperature.

There is most likely nothing wrong with your Smart Keg.

If your keg is still full, we can guarantee that it will cool your beer down to 17℃ below the ambient temperature that is measured by our temperature sensor on the keg. This might take a while, and in a very warm climate the keg may not be able to reach the target temperature. For example in a 28℃ environment the keg may not be able to cool below 11℃.

If your keg is not full anymore, it can still work at a 100% cooling efficiency as long as there is 4 liters of beer or more left in it. Once the beer level falls below 4 liters, the keg has to work harder to cool the beer, and once there is 1.5 liters or less in the keg the efficiency is dramatically reduced, and it will be hard for the keg to cool the beer or accurately report its temperature. The reason for that is the cooling element and the temperature sensor being located at the center height of the keg, so if the beer level is lower, the keg is trying to cool down the air inside, which acts as an insulator. This means once you've tapped 3.5-4 liters of beer, you can still leave the remaining 1.5 liters in there to keep it cool, but the temperature can’t be guaranteed and the reported temperature in the app won’t be accurate anymore. We recommend tapping and drinking the remaining beer at that point.

  • The LED on the keg flashes and stays solid orange.

No need to worry. When the fan is running your beer is still fermenting on schedule.

Try unplugging the keg and plugging it back in first.

If the keg still ends up in a solid orange state, then reset the keg's wifi credentials.

To do this, hold down the power button on the keg until it turns purple.

At this point the machine should be creating a hotspot called MiniBrew Keg.

  • The keg switch is jammed in the closed position.

Apply some food grade grease from the service kit to the bottom of the ball lock. Open and close the switch a couple of times to make it easier to turn. Now you should be able to open and close it all the way.

  • How do I connect the ball lock connector?

Try to pull up on the outer ring (the ball lock sleeve) a few times before placing to get a feel for how it works. Once you pull up the sleeve, place the ball lock on the keg post.

When the ball lock is placed correctly, you will hear a click.

When removing the ball lock, pull up the sleeve.

  • The white water inlet tube is leaking.

Detach the water tap. Check if there is a black rubber seal in the white connector.

If there is not, go to your local hardware store and replace the 3/4 rubber seal.

  • I don't know where to connect the white inlet tube.

Check if the connector fits your tap first. Screw the connector onto the tap, including the tube.

  • Something went wrong with my brew.

If you're in the setup / connection / scan brew kit phase, please fill in the general support form.
If you're in the brewing / fermentation phase, please fill in the urgency form.

We will try to get back to you very quickly on working days between 9:00 and 21:00 CET.

  • I can't place the keg lid in the keg.

First put a small amount of the food grade grease from the service kit on the yellow seal and attempt to connect the keg lid normally. If this still doesn't work, use the handle of a spoon or other thin, blunt object to push any part of the yellow seal sticking out of the closed lid inside the opening.

  • How should I place the water lock connector?

Check if the yellow rubber has two round protrusions on the side. Place the yellow plug with the round parts over the middle center opening. The two protrusions need to be in line with the open hole of the growler head. No luck? Watch this video.

  • The cleaning process doesn't start.

Check if the container is properly placed with the yellow marker pointing towards the open oval alignment indicator. Turn the container to the open oval mark.

Turn it clockwise to the closed oval mark.  Check if the connector is placed in the base station.

Assure the black screw connector is closed.

  • The regulator is leaking CO2.

Turn the CO2 dial to zero. Unplug the ball lock connector from the keg lid. Unscrew the ball lock from the CO2 regulator.

Check if there is a rubber seal in the copper housing. If there is not, please contact us here.

  • The pressure relief valve is leaking CO2.

Lift up the ring. There will be a hissing sound as CO2 evacuates from the keg.

Remove the pressure relieve valve by unscrewing it. Check to make sure the ring at the bottom of the valve aligns with the indent at the end of the column. Screw the valve back in.

  • I attached the regulator with the CO2 cartridge, but my keg isn’t filling with CO2.

In previous designs of the regulator, the needle that punctures the CO2 cartridge can get “capped” during the puncturing process, meaning the hole in the center can get covered with a small piece of metal from the cartridge. This usually results in a short hiss every time the regulator is set to maximum pressure, followed by no flow of CO2 into the keg. You can remove this small piece of metal from the needle with needle nose pliers, and the CO2 should flow freely after that. Be aware that when this happens there is still CO2 in the cartridge. When you remove it from the regulator it will discharge quickly. We recommend using an oven mitt or cloth to handle the CO2 cartridge at these times, as quick discharge may cause the cartridge to flash cool which can cause the metal to stick to bare skin.

  • The fermentation time is the same as when I started.

It seems there is an error in the sensors. Please fill in our urgency form and we will get your fermentation back on track.

  • Can I put the tap in the dishwasher?

Yes. You need to disassemble it completely before you put it in the dishwasher. Make sure you remember how to put it back together and you don't lose any parts.

  • My SmartKeg is -1000 degrees Celcius.

Unplug the power adapter from the keg and wait for 30 seconds.

Plug the power adapter back in the keg and the issues should resolve.

No luck? Please fill in our urgency form.

  • I have 49000 days left before I can consume my beer.

There seems to be an error in the fermentation schedule for the keg.

Please fill in our urgency form and we will get your fermentation back on track.

  • What do the different LED colors mean?

    Ledcolors

  • I'm not able to detach the sparge plate.

Check if your sparge plate has a half circle on one side. Push your finger behind the plate there to unclick the spare plate from its position. It often helps to slightly bend the black lid back and use a bit of force to detach the plate.

    No luck? Watch this video.

  • I've ground my own malt and now my machine is clogged.

If you grind your own malt, the standard dry basis course grind (DBCG) can be achieved with a gap setting of between 1 mm and 0.7 mm. Never brew with dry basis fine grind (below 0.7 mm). This could break the pump of the MiniBrew machine.

  • A MiniBrew part broke. What can I do?

If a part breaks within your 2 years' warranty, we will replace the part free of charge. To request a replacement part, please fill in this form.
