Good news for women who love their daily pint! According to the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, it has been proven that drinking beer in moderation reduces the risk of heart attack and increases overall happiness.

Researchers at the said university have discovered that moderate beer drinking may hold significant health benefits for women. Their studies have shown that drinking beer one or two times weekly reduces by 30% the risk of heart attacks. This data has been compared to women who either do not drink at all or drink higher quantities of that crave-worthy ale. Don't ever feel bad again about winding down with a pint, ladies.

However, this study has also indicated that if you are more of a G&T type, even if drunk in moderation, cocktail prone spirits might have an adverse effect on your health. Drinking heavy alcohol more than once or twice a month has been directly correlated with a 50% risk increase in death from cancer. Definitely worth considering switching to beer in that case.

The research was published in the Journal of Primary Health Care, a scientific journal that explores and discusses all things health related. The longitudinal study was conducted for almost 50 years on a total of 1,500 women. In 32 of the years, between 1968 until 2000, the women completed a form that revealed their total consumption of wine, beer, and spirits as well as any diseases, conditions, or illnesses they had. The scientists were then able to cross-reference the data and map out patterns and trends between alcohol consumption and the risk of certain illnesses.

The results indicated that 345 of the women from the 15,000 got cancer, 185 women suffered a heart attack, 162 had a stroke, and 160 had diabetes.

While drinking doesn’t need to be avoided, the research suggests that treating yourself to a beer or two every week is absolutely fine. However, it’s best to avoid spirits – and that, unfortunately, includes cocktails.

This research has been published in a scientific journal, the Journal of Primary Health Care, and has been conducted on 1,500 women on a scale of almost 50 years.

So what better excuse do you need to start homebrewing already?
